Curry 36

Curry 36

Berlin, Germany

Curry 36 is a Berlin Currywurst institution with locations across the city, the most famous being the stand at Mehringdamm U-Bahn station in Kreuzberg. Open since 1981, it operates from a counter window with no seating, and the queue at peak hours runs down the pavement. The currywurst is made with a pork sausage fried in fat until the skin crisps, then sliced and covered in the house curry-ketchup sauce, which is a warmed spiced tomato base finished with curry powder. A portion comes with a wooden fork and optionally with a bread roll. Curry 36 is not the oldest currywurst stand in Berlin but it is the most visited, and for many visitors it is the first and only currywurst they will eat in the city.
