Attari Sandwich Shop
Los Angeles, United States
Attari Sandwich Shop has been feeding the Iranian diaspora in Westwood since 1979, the same year the revolution sent hundreds of thousands of Iranians to Los Angeles. The shop is a narrow counter operation on Westwood Boulevard, a street so dense with Persian businesses it earned the name Tehrangeles. The signature sandwich is sosis: grilled Persian-style beef sausage on a soft roll with butter, pickles, and a slick of ketchup and mustard, sometimes a fried egg on top. It tastes like the sandwich a generation grew up eating in Tehran and could not find anywhere else until Attari opened. The line on weekends runs out the door.
